Genetic improvement of red clover for virus resistance through biotechnology
Keywords:
genetic transformation, transgenicAbstract
The protocols adopted for tissue culture of both plant species, tobacco and clover, proved to be efficient, as a large number of plantlets originating in vitro were recovered. The PCR and DNA hybridization results according to the Southern technique showed that the gene in question had indeed been integrated into the plant genome. Interesting results were also obtained with the ELISA experiments. Figure 4 shows some representative results, indicating that several tobacco and red clover plants showed positive reactions to the capsular protein antibodies, meaning that this protein was being produced at high levels in these transgenic plants.
