Check out the new edition of Agropecuária Catarinense journal!
In this edition of the Agropecuária Catarinense jornal, we highlight the application of biological control through the use of insect parasitoids. Considered as a sustainable practice aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), biological control is no longer considered a laboratory innovation and has become a tangible reality in crops. Numerous companies offer products in this area, ranging from antagonistic bacteria to predatory insects for specific crops. However, there is still ample room for advancement. Therefore, it is important to continue exploring the diverse applications of biological control, as shown in the study presented in this issue, where several fruit fly parasitoids were identified, including the discovery of a parasitoid species not previously documented. Without a doubt, this is a significant contribution to the field.
Furthermore, the journal addresses the use of rock powder as sources of fertilizers in agriculture. These minerals have gained prominence as fertilizers, especially in organic farming systems. Two studies presented in this issue highlight the beneficial effects of its application on tested crops and its impact on soil nitrogen dynamics.
This issue of the magazine also highlights several other important topics for Santa Catarina, including improving wheat for superior nutritional quality, the Felix series of apple trees, macroalgae farming systems, etc.
