First report of cassava witch’s broom disease in Santa catarina, Brazil
Keywords:
Manihot esculenta, Phytoplasma, plant disease.Abstract
Diseased cassava plants with yellowing symptoms, size reduction, overbudding and roots without commercial value were found on the south coast of Santa Catarina, Brazil. The objective of this study was to identify the causal agent associated
with the symptoms of the disease. Four samples of diseased plants were analyzed by nested PCR in the laboratory, confirming the presence of a phytoplasm. The incidence of the disease was low and localized in a small plot of a farm and elimination of diseased plants was recommended as a method of control. This work is the first report of cassava witch broom in Santa Catarina.
