Efficiency of insecticides against garlic thrips, Thrips tabaci Lindeman

The efficiency of seven insecticides (beta-cyfluthrin, deltamethrin, formetanate hydrochloride, spinetoram, chlorfenapyr, imidacloprid and acetamiprid + etofenproxy) was evaluated in a field study conducted in two consecutive crop seasons against the garlic thrips (Thrips tabaci) in Caçador-SC. Two sprays of insecticides were carried out and evaluations were made at 3 and 7 days after each spray. The greatest reduction in thrips population was observed in treatments with spinetoram and formetanate hydrochloride followed by imidacloprid. Moreover, the insecticides beta-cyfluthrin, deltamethrin, chlorfenapyr and acetamiprid + etofenproxy were less effective in controlling thrips. The insecticides spinetoram and formetanate hydrochloride were the most efficient insecticides for the control of T. tabaci in garlic crop in Santa Catarina.
