Abstract – The west region of Santa Catarina is well recognized for its potential agriculture, livestock and aquaculture production mainly practiced by family-farming small producers. In this region, fish farming has grown increasingly mainly due to its favorable conditions for tilapiculture often grown in ponds and recently in a cage. In this sense, a pioneer project of tilapia cultivation in cages (volume 6m3 and 18m3 each tank) has been settled in the lake of Itá hydroelectric located surrounding Concórdia, SC. Currently, the fish farming consists of 168 cages with a total production of around 170t (average of each tilapia 600g) in the year of 2017.
