Abstract

Four species of pasture spittlebugs were identified: Zulia entreriana, Deois mourei, Deois schach
and Deois flavopicta, and the population fluctuation of each one was studied and correlated with climatic elements. The levels of infestation in different perennial grass species of summer were also assessed. The greatest occurrence of adults spittlebugs and spittle masses were found in the period of October to April and had a positive
correlation between the population fluctuation of adult spittlebug masses with minimum average temperature. The greatest numbers of spittle masses were found in Paspalum notatum and Hemarthria altissima cultivar Flórida.
