Abstract

Abstract – Diatomaceous earth-based formulations (Keepdry® e Insecto®) are commercially available in Brazil and their physical characteristics can affect their toxicity and agronomic effectiveness. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate, based on toxicological data, the effectiveness of these commercial formulations registered and available in the Brazil market for the control of S. zeamais in stored corn. The LC50 and LC90 were estimated, respectively, in 248.75 and 360.18 ppm to Keepdry® and in 204.57 and 409.97 ppm to Insecto® without, however, occur significant difference among them. The mean lethal time (LT50) estimated also showed no difference between the two formulations in any of the tested concentrations. Thus, the two formulations may constitute promising alternatives for the preventative management of this Coleoptera pest in stored grain.
