Control of cassava diseases in Brazilian cultivation systems

Controlling cassava diseases requires the adoption of different practices to preserve the health of the crop, whether at a local or national level. The use of resistant cultivars stands out as a control method, especially for bacteriosis, a disease considered the focus of crop improvement projects. On the other hand, the use of healthy propagation material deserves more attention as a control method, and it is necessary to reinforce practices for the production of healthy plants, the management of stacks, and the training of producers in recognizing diseased plants. Although the planting of resistant cultivars and the use of healthy propagation material stand out as control practices, the threat of introducing new diseases into the national territory indicates the need to reinforce quarantine measures for detection and adoption of actions to eliminate possible outbreaks of these diseases. The objective of this work was to discuss the control of cassava diseases under cultivation conditions in different Brazilian regions.
