Abstract

In the present study, four models of traps containing roots of tayuya (Cayaponia tayuya) were tested
to identify which of them could be the most effective to capture corn rootworms (Coleoptera, Chrysomelidae: Galerucinae). The study was carried out in an organic apple orchard at Epagri/Caçador Experiment Station during the blooming stage of 2005/06 and 2006/07 seasons. The study used the completely randomized block design, with eight repetitions and four treatments, totaling 32 traps. A total of 16,404 corn rootworms, mostly included in the genus Diabrotica, were captured in the four trap models in both periods. The soil trap was made of an oil can cut in halves longitudinally and painted yellow inside. It was considered the most appropriate for
capturing corn rootworms in an apple orchard.
