The cultivar SCS 253-Sangão was developed by Epagri’s project for genetic improvement of cassava.
It was also evaluated by farmers through a participatory research method, in the main producing regions of
cassava in the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil. In cultivar competition tests and participatory research this cultivar achieved yields ranging from 20 to 24t/ha, with high dry matter content in the roots (36.7% to 38.8%), and
resistance to anthracnose and bacterioses, vigorous and upright branches, among many other desirable
characteristics.
