Abstract

Diaphorina citri Kuwayama (Hemiptera, Psyllidae) or asiatic citrus psyllid is an exotic pest that feeds
on new sprout of citrus trees causing leave deformation and redution of fruit production. It is also the vector of Candidatus Liberibacter bacterium, causal agent of the greening disease. Its excretion favors the colonization of Capinodium citri Berk & Desm., a fungus that causes fumagine on the plants. Infestation of this psyllid was
observed in an orchard of citrus in Chapecó, Santa Catarina, Brazil, in October 2004, being this the first record of its occurrence in this State.
