Effect of Kappaphycus alvarezii biofertilizer on rooting of basil and cherry tomato cuttings

This study investigated the effect of the biofertilizer derived from the macroalga Kappaphycus alvarezii on the rooting of basil (Ocimum basilicum) cuttings. To evaluate the effect of different concentrations (0, 0,25, 0,5, 1, 2, 4, 8 e 16 mL L-1) of biofertilizer's efficacy in promoting rhizogenesis, root counts were performed after 7 days and 14 days, and the maximum and total root length were measured at 14 days. The Scott & Knott test (p < 0.05) was applied to the data collected at the end of the experiment. Concentrations of 4mL L-1, 8mL L-1, and 16mL L-1 of the biofertilizer resulted in significant increases (p < 0.05) in root number for basil compared to the control (distilled water), after 14 days. These results highlight the agronomic potential of K. alvarezii-based biofertilizer in the vegetative propagation of agricultural species, contributing to more sustainable farming practices.
