Abstract

The objective of this study was to evaluate the yield performance of four cultivars of strawberry and fruit health, under an alternative production system. The experiment was carried out in Chapecó, in western Santa Catarina, Brazil. Cultivars Albion, Camarosa, Camino Real and Toyonoca were evaluated. The production system used was of protected cultivation under low tunnels with organic fertilization and destruction of diseased tissues. Total yield (RT), yield of commercial fruits (RFC), fruits with pest attacks (RFP), fruits with diseases (RFD), their proportions and also the
distribution of production over time were evaluated. Cultivar Camarosa surpassed Albion in RT and RFC, and Toyonoca only in RFC. Toyonoca showed a higher proportion of fruits attacked by pests than the other cultivars. The peak of yield of Camarosa happened earlier than with other cultivars. Among the tested cultivars, Camarosa and Camino Real had
better performance and can be utilized to stagger the harvest in the production system considered.
