Corn yield response to nitrogen fertilizer following winter cover crops in no-till system
Keywords:

Corn is highly responsive in yield to nitrogen (N) supply, but winter cover crops cultivated beforecould affect this response. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the corn response to N fertilization, when cultivated after black oat (Avena strigosa), rye (Secale cereale), common vetch (Vicia sativa) and oilseed radish (Rhaphanus sativus) in recently implanted no-till system, and to determine the N doses to the maximum technical
efficiency (MTE) and maximum economical efficiency (MEE). A combination of N doses at sowing (zero, 20, 40 and 80kg/ha) and top-dressing (zero, 20, 40 and 80kg/ha) was applied. Corn grain yield was related to the total N applied independently of the winter cover crop. The maximum technical efficiency was at 138, 128, 131 and 161kg/ha of N, and the maximum economical efficiency was at the 117, 108, 97 and 120kg/ha of N, respectively, to black
oat, rye, common vetch and oilseed radish.
