Abstract

Continuing its breeding program of feijoa (Acca selowiana), one of the most promising commercial
native fruit-tree of Southern Brazil, Epagri is launching two new cultivars, SCS 414-Mattos and SCS 415-Nonante, with the intention of extending and improving the flow of feijoa supply to the market. The peak of harvesting for
Mattos cultivar fits between Alcantara and Helena, two cultivars launched in 2007, while ‘Nonante’ starts to
mature about 20 days after the harvesting start of ‘Helena’ and, extending the harvest period of feijoa until the second week of May. The cultivar Mattos results from the cloning of one of the 200 accesses of the germplasm bank and stands out by its size, appearance and quality of the fruit, while ‘Nonante’ results of a cross between two accesses collected from backyards in Santa Catarina and stands out by its constancy of production, rusticity and
flavor of the fruit, apart from being self-compatible.
