Abstract: Weedy rice, also known as red rice, is a weed that causes the greatest damage to rice cultivation Santa Catarina. In addition to the reduction of yield due to high height and architecture of plants, it causes lodging of rice crops, increases the cost of industrial processing, devaluates the final product and reduces the value of land by infestation of the soil. The Clearfield® production system is an important alternative of red rice control, as well as of other weeds occurring in rice fields, with herbicides that are nonselective to rice without this resistance gene. The main components of this system are resistant rice varieties, recommended herbicides, employment of certified seed and permanent monitoring of the crop. Epagri, through the Experimental Station of Itajai, has registered and protected SCS121 CL variety, of second generation, due to its high resistance to herbicides of the imidazolinone group and its suitability for cultivation, both with pre-germinated seeds in shallow water as in drained soil. This variety was released for commercial cultivation for the 2014/15 crop and made available for grain production in the 2015/16 crop.Metrics
