Yield potential and fruit quality of apple SCS1605 Serrana grafted on different rootstocks

The aim of this study was to evaluate the yield potential and fruit quality of the apple cultivar SCS1605 Serrana grafted on different rootstocks in the region of São Joaquim, SC. The work was carried out in the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 harvest seasons, using the rootstocks Marubakaido (Maruba; 1000 plants ha-1) and Maruba with M.9 interstem (MB/M.9; 1667 plants ha-1). Yield and number of fruits per tree, estimated yield (t ha-1), fruit mass, starch index, flesh firmness, soluble solids (SS) content and titratable acidity were evaluated. The fruits were also classified by size and percentage of red color in the skin. The cultivar SCS1605 Serrana showed high yield potential in both harvest seasons, with estimated yields above 59.2 and 93.4t ha-1 for the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 seasons, respectively. The rootstock MB/M.9 provided higher yield and fruit caliber in the 2019/2020 seasons. The MB/M.9 provided higher levels of SS and percentages of red color in the skin compared to Maruba. The cultivar SCS1605 Serrana has a high yield potential in the region of São Joaquim, with high yields and high fruit quality, for both Maruba and MB/M.9 rootstocks.
