Evaluation of physicochemical characteristics of commercial substrates used to produce sour passion fruit seedlings

Production of quality sour passion fruit seedlings can be influenced by the physicochemical characteristics of the substrates used. This study evaluates the physicochemical characteristics of eight commercial substrates and their impact on the development of passion fruit seedlings in a protected cultivation environment. Experimental cultivation was conducted in a randomized block design with eight commercial substrates, four replications, and six potted seedlings per plot. Plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, root and shoot dry mass, pH, and electrical conductivity (EC) were evaluated 150 days after sowing. The substrates showed ideal parameters according to the needs of the cultivation system for most physical and chemical variables evaluated. TF F11, TF F, and MP substrates provided the highest seedling development due to their greater water retention capacity, higher acidity (between 5 and 5.5), and density between 230 and 340kg m-3.
