As an allogamous species that presents gametophytic self-incompatibility, the apple tree (Malus x domestica Borkh.) only has satisfactory crop loads when is cultivated together with another compatible cultivar as a pollinator. To be efficient, this pollinating cultivar needs to have a coincident flowering period and be genetically compatible with the commercial cultivar, in addition to producing flowers and pollen in abundance. The objective of this work is to present the Felix Series of semi-wild pollinator cultivars developed by Epagri. In addition to having lower chilling requirements and being resistant to the main diseases, the semi-wild Felix Series apple trees have intense and prolonged flowering, and allow good gametophytic compatibility combinations with the commercial apple cultivars. These characteristics give the Felix Series apple trees good climatic adaptation to most apple-growing regions in southern Brazil and a high potential for use as pollinators for the commercial cultivars Gala and Fuji, as well as for the new hybrids apple cultivars developed by Epagri. The Felix 3 and Felix 4 cultivars had the widest potential for application as pollinators for the commercial apple cultivars, although they are not suitable for pollinating the cultivar Daiane, which has a later flowering period.
