Due to the genetic mechanism of gametophytic self-incompatibility present in apple trees, an orchard must have specific pollinating plants to ensure fruit production. This study aims to select pollinating plants for the apple cultivar SCS445 Isadora. Genetic compatibility between apple trees was verified by genotyping S alleles using specific DNA markers. Manual pollinations were also carried out in Caçador, SC, Brazil, for two consecutive seasons, to verify the efficiency of each pollinator in an orchard environment. The experimental design was randomized blocks, with six and five replicates of 25 inflorescences of two flowers each, in the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 seasons, respectively. The varieties SCS433 Felix 3, SCS435 Felix 5 and SCS417 Monalisa are fully compatible with ‘SCS443 Isadora’, and although ‘SCS425 Luiza’ is semi-compatible with ‘SCS443 Isadora’ because it has one of the alleles in common (S5), all the pollinating plants tested were efficient in fertilizing the female gamete of its flowers and are suitable for use as pollinators in orchards of the cultivar SCS443 Isadora.
