Abstract

The apple cultivar named SCS417 Monalisa was developed by Epagri (Empresa de Pesquisa Agropecuária e Extensão Rural de Santa Catarina), in its Experiment Station of Caçador, as a result of ‘Gala’ and ‘Malus 4’ crossing. ‘Monalisa’ presents medium chilling requirement; resistance to apple scab (vf gene); resistance to gala leaf spot; good tolerance to bitter rot; and no preference by red spider mite. This cultivar has very good appearance of fruits and high gustative fruit quality. Because of these traits, SCS417 Monalisa has high potential for apple production with less agrochemicals spraying or organic production of apples in Brazil.
