      Abstract

The objective of this study was to evaluated the performance of maize in the presence or absence of seed inoculation with Azospirillum brasilense using different nitrogen (N) rates. One experiment was carried out in Erval Velho, Santa Catarina state, Brazil, during the 2010/11 crop season. The experimental design was a complete block with three replications in a 2 x 4
factorial scheme. Seeds with and without inoculation and fve N rates (0, 40, 80, 135 and 200kg/ha) were used. As to grain yield, no interaction between inoculation and N rates was observed. However, both the inoculation and the N fertlization promoted yield increment.
