Abstract

The organic production of tomato is difficulted by great diversity of pests and diseases. The objective
of this study was to evaluate the use of physical barriers in organic systems of tomato production in protected environment. It consisted of the tomato evaluation in field conditions and in polyetilene covered greenhouse with and without insect-proof screens laterally. Six cultivation sites were evaluated: polyetilene covered greenhouse
without insect-proof screens, polyetilene covered greenhouse with aphid-proof screens, with citros and clarite insect-proof screens; cultivation in screenhouse without polyetilene covered in the upper and border parts with citros screens, and cultivation in the field. The use of the citros insect-proof screens was effective in the control
of pest attacks and may be used laterally in greenhouse covered with polyetilene for commercial production of tomatoes.
