Abstract
Apple leaves of cultivar Fuji collected in 2005 at Epagri/Estação Experimental de Caçador developed
Glomerella perithecia after 7 to 10 days in mist chamber. Perithecia were immersed in the tissue, single or in clusters, presenting different degrees of formation and maturation. Asci and ascospores released by ostiole were conic involved in a gelatinous pink matrix. After monoconidial isolations and lab tests it was possible to identify
the fungus as Glomerella acutata, the teleomorph of Colletotrichum acutatum, for the first time. Leaf samples were immediately submitted to colespor and the conclusion was the same for Glomerella cingulata, i.e., G. acutata is not actively released from the structures. This is the first report of G. acutata on apple leaves in Brazil.
