Abstract
Organic production is growing rapidly in Santa Catarina, providing income opportunities. This system promotes environmental sustainability by utilizing composted waste and residues. Despite this, the use of these materials has led to problems of nutrient imbalances in the soil that affect production, crop health, and the environment. This aspect presents a gap in the organic farming system, characterized by a shortage of information and products. The objective of this study was to develop and evaluate balanced bioinputs (BI) for the nutrition of organic crops of annual (lettuce) and perennial (royal palm) plants. The BIs were developed from organic compounds produced with regional waste, mixed with other additives permitted for the organic system. The BIs were tested in pots with four successive crops of lettuce and royal palm, evaluating production and soil characteristics. The BIs provided increases in plant production at the same level or even higher than those obtained with conventionally used fertilizers in organic production, as well as the production levels achieved in conventional systems using synthetic fertilizers. Above all, in addition to maintaining high plant production levels, the BIs do not cause soil imbalances, unlike those used in organic production, which are based exclusively on poultry litter. Given the efficiencies achieved by the developed BIs, it is recommended that they be manufactured and used for organic crops.
