Productive characteristics of a Corriedale flock of different ages and wool ratings

Abstract- The objective was characterized the productivity of animals of a commercial flock of Corriedale considering the age and the selection line. The data were taken from the production of 2015 of a commercial Corriedale flock totally composed of ewes originated from a farm in the municipality of Herval, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Based on the data were made some inferences on the age and the selection line, by checking the influence on body size and wool production of animals analyzed. It was found higher body length and greater height in ewes until three shearing, but has not verified the influence of shearing number in the weight of grease fleece. However, the lines of selection didn’t have influence on body size, but medium line animals (mean fiber diameters of 26.5-27.8μ) tended to have greater participation of sheep with Normal fleeces (dirty fleece weight greater than or equal to 3,0kg). Thus, that same line was the one with the highest gross production per head. In this sense, older sheep presented larger body size, animals of the Middle line presented larger weights of grease fleece and animals of this same line presented higher monetary remuneration per head.
