‘SCS437 Catarina’: Sour passion fruit with high quality for the fresh market

Abstract - The ‘SCS437 Catarina’ sour passion fruit (Passiflora edulis Sims.) is the result of more than twenty cycles of breeding and population maintenance done by researchers of Epagri – Experimental Station of Urussanga, in partnership with agricultural extension agents and passion fruit producers, in the south coast of the Santa Catarina State – Brazil. The cultivar is highly adapted to the Santa Catarina coastline region and can be cultivated in southern Brazil, in areas with low risk of frosts. The average productivity of the orchards of this cultivar in the South of Santa Catarina is 24 t ha-1. The fruits are large and oval and have yellow peel and orange flesh coloration. They are destined to the fresh fruit consumption and presents high quality and acceptance in the Brazilian market.
