        Abstract

This study was carried out to evaluate the behavior of castor beans cultivars (AL Guarany 2002,
IAC 80, Mara and Lyra) at different sowing periods. The seeds were sowed in November (1/11/2006 and 21/11/ 2006) and December (11/12/2006). The experiments were conducted in Chapecó, SC, Brazil, during the agricultural year of 2006/07. The experimental design was in randomized blocks, with two replications. The yields in the
assays indicate low agronomic potential for delayed sowings (December). For the sowings in November, the yields were satisfactory in relation to other Brazilian regions.
