Guidelines for publication

RAC - Agropecuária Catarinense adopts the Open Access model and, in 2026, will begin applying best practices in Open Science through continuous publication, encouraging open evaluation – partial or total – with the publication of the review alongside the article, identifying the responsible editors. It also encourages the publication of submitted materials on preprint servers, promotes the deposit of research data in free repositories, and fosters diversity, equity, and inclusion in geographic, gender, and ethnic areas, with a more pluralistic team. It allows for changes to first, last, and last names, and uses persistent indicators such as DOI, ORCID, and ROAR.

The manuscript submitted to RAC must be original and present notable scientific, technical, or technological relevance to the area. The study must meet ethical standards of research conduct. There should be no conflict of interest of any kind, and it is the author(s)' responsibility to ensure that proper credit has been given to all those involved.

Check which section your material falls under:

a) Scientific Article: Scientific articles must be conclusive, originating from completed research. Articles should be written based on experiments repeated over time (different years) and/or space (different locations) with consistent data and results. They should be no longer than 18-20 pages.

b) Germplasm Article: The Germplasm section is dedicated to the launch and description of new plant cultivars, animal breeds, or microorganism strains of agricultural interest. This dissemination of the new germplasm provides a complete description, along with its advantages and disadvantages. They should be no longer than 18-20 pages.

c) Bibliographic Review Article: Presents the state of the art on a topic, technology, or technological process in Agricultural Sciences, in which the author(s) must have recognized qualifications and experience. Maximum length: 20 pages.

d) Scientific Note Article: Refers to recent, unpublished scientific research with important results of interest for rapid dissemination, but with insufficient information to constitute a full scientific article. This format should be a maximum of 10 pages long.

e) Technical Information: This refers to the description of a well-established technique, diseases, insect pests, and other practical technical recommendations, aimed primarily at teaching, extension, and technical professionals. The topic must be part of the author's research or professional practice. It should be 10 pages long.

f) Opinion Article: The opinion manuscript should discuss various topics of interest to science and the production sector, encouraging reflection on the subject in question from the author's perspective. These are works submitted under consultation, meaning that prior to submission, the manuscript should be discussed with editors.

g) Conjuncture Article: This section addresses matters from the agricultural and fishing sectors that focus on current events based on technical, economic, social, or political analysis, and whose publication is timely. These are works submitted under consultation, meaning that prior to submission, the manuscript should be discussed with editors.

h) Preprint Article: follows the same rules as scientific articles and literature reviews.

RAC supports the use of institutional repositories for depositing versions of your article, those aimed at preserving, disseminating, and reusing data. Authors must inform the journal during the submission process about the deposit of the preprint and/or data in data repositories.

The journal accepts submissions of manuscripts that have been previously deposited in reliable preprint repositories, such as:

a) F1000Research – interdisciplinary
b) Fairsharing - interdisciplinary
c) Figshare - interdisciplinary
d) Open Science - interdisciplinary
e) Research Square: multidisciplinary
f) Zenodo – interdisciplinary

Works for the sections Scientific Article, Germplasm Article, Literature Review Article, Scientific Note Article, Technical Information must be original and accompanied by the RAC submission declaration.

Opinion and Current Affairs articles are published on demand and by invitation, which are reviewed by the editor and/or section editor. Depending on the theme, Opinion and Current Affairs articles may be sent to reviewers.

RAC recommends using the Author Check-review, a tool for checking and guiding authors to help them identify potential problems. Such inadequacies can generate additional demands and longer correction times, delaying publication.

For submission, the author must adapt the manuscript to RAC guidelines, mandatorily using the journal's article template.
