Abstract

Abstract- To identify the initial density effect on mussel farming productivity, 45 one-meter culture ropes with densities of 300, 400 and 600 individuals per meter were prepared and monitored for eight months. The monitoring included bi-monthly biometry of mussels from samples of 33cm of the farming cable, as well as the monthly weighing of ropes. The results indicated that the initial farming density did not affect the growth rate of mussels, however, mussel fall-off and productivity losses were observed at the highest density after the seventh month of farming.
