          Abstract

          Corn is an important basic crop for the small family farmers in Santa Catarina, economically and
          socially. The use of open-pollination corn cultivars is a viable alternative for family farmers because the low cost of seeds and possibility of self production of seeds. The open-pollination cultivar SCS 154 (Fortuna), developed by Epagri/Cepaf, has a yield potential superior to 6,000kg/ha and adaptation to the edaphoclimatic conditions of the
          Santa Catarina State.
